Port Grimaud, with its canals and colourful houses, is accessible from the area; its market and quays are best explored on foot. In Saint-Tropez, the citadel houses a museum dedicated to maritime history and overlooks the harbour. The Museum of Gendarmerie and Cinema explores two well-known aspects of the town. Wine lovers can also visit the vineyards in the surrounding area. A car makes it easier to travel between the beaches and villages around the gulf; boat shuttles also connect the region’s harbours.

For a day out, plan a walk around the old town of Saint-Tropez, a stop at the harbour and then an afternoon on the coast. June and September are often a quieter alternative to the height of summer, while swimming and beach activities fill summer days. The mistral can make the sea rougher and cool the air; it’s worth bringing an extra layer for outings in the late afternoon. The villages of Gassin and Grimaud make for a day trip into the hinterland and a chance to explore more of the gulf.
