Les Gites de Catherine

Les Gites de Catherine offers two holiday homes, each accommodating up to three people. Both have a private bathroom, a living area with a flat-screen TV, and access to a terrace or patio. They overlook the shared garden or inner courtyard. The kitchens allow you to prepare meals on site and include a fridge, oven, hob and coffee machine.

The one-bedroom house offers 50 m² and has a kitchenette, air conditioning and a sofa bed in the living room, in addition to the large double bed. The two-bedroom house is larger, at 60 m², and has a dishwasher, a double bed and a single bed. The outdoor facilities and garden views are shared by both houses; the main differences are the sleeping arrangements and kitchen facilities.

The outdoor areas let you enjoy the shared garden at different times of day. You’ll find outdoor furniture, an outdoor dining area, a picnic area, a patio and terraces, including a sun terrace. The houses also have facilities for cooking and dining on site; a coffee machine is among the amenities available in both.

Activities in the surrounding area include hiking, horse riding and tennis. For family stays, children’s books, DVDs or music are available. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms. Free public parking is nearby, and accessible parking spaces are also available on the street. The houses are non-smoking and have heating. Laundry facilities are available on site.

Gargas is a village in the Luberon, amid the Provençal landscape of hills, fields and former ochre quarries. The village retains a rural atmosphere, while nearby Apt, with its shops, market and heritage, offers a livelier stop. The colours of the soil and façades recall the history of ochre mining in this part of Vaucluse. The area suits travellers looking to combine walks, village visits and discoveries of local heritage.

The Mines de Bruoux, 1.2 km away, reveal former galleries carved into ochre cliffs. In Apt, the Musée d'Apt displays collections dedicated to the history and traditions of the region. The Sentier des Ocres de Roussillon takes you through rock formations in shades of red and yellow, while the hilltop villages of the Luberon offer old lanes and views over the countryside. A car makes it easier to travel between these sites and neighbouring villages; Marseille-Provence Airport is 52 km away.

For a day in the area, you could spend the morning walking through the ochre landscapes, then head to Apt or a nearby village to wander through the lanes and explore its heritage. Spring and autumn are well suited to hiking, with temperatures often milder than in the height of summer. In June and July, the Provençal landscapes take on their summer colours, and the lavender fields make a worthwhile excursion in the region. Bring sturdy shoes for the trails and allow time to explore the country roads.
