La Ciotat is a port town in Bouches-du-Rhône, between Marseille and Toulon, where urban beaches meet old neighbourhoods and the limestone landscapes of the coast. The seafront, quays and narrow streets of the centre tell the story of a town shaped by the Mediterranean and shipbuilding. The holiday home is in a residential area where several beaches can be reached on foot; the seafront sets the pace of the day, from swimming to late-afternoon walks.

Capucins Beach, Cyrnos Beach and Lumière Beach each offer access to the shore and swimming. Musée Ciotaden showcases local history and maritime traditions, while the port is a place to watch the boats and stroll along the quays. Further afield, Calanques National Park opens onto rocky coves and coastal paths; the landscapes around Cassis and Cap Canaille are well suited to excursions and boat trips. La Ciotat railway station makes regional journeys easier, and Marseille Provence Airport serves the town from inland.

The summer season is suited to days at the beach and outings on the water, but the coast is also worth exploring in spring and September, when temperatures remain mild and walks are quieter. For a varied day, start with the market or port, spend the afternoon swimming, then walk along the coast. In summer, take water and sun protection when hiking in exposed areas of the Calanques; access to some trails may depend on local conditions and the risk of fire.
