The surrounding countryside alternates between olive groves, pine forests and rocky terrain, with trails popular with walkers and cyclists.

You can discover the old town and the Collegiate Church of Saint-Martin on a walk, along with the Musée des Alpilles and the Musée Estrine, which focuses in particular on modern art. Outside the centre, the ancient site of Glanum brings together the remains of an old Roman city; the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole Monastery is associated with Van Gogh’s stay. Les Antiques, two Roman monuments near Glanum, complete the visit. Avignon, with the Palace of the Popes and Pont Saint-Bénézet, makes a good day trip. Avignon TGV station serves the region, while a car makes it easier to get between the villages and trails of the Alpilles.

Spring and autumn are particularly good for walks, when temperatures are milder and the landscapes are pleasant to explore. In summer, plan walks for early morning or late afternoon and leave time for the pool during the hottest part of the day. You can spend a day exploring the old town, having a Provençal lunch, then walking around Glanum or in the hills. Seasonal markets also offer the chance to discover local produce, including olives and regional specialities.
