Marignane is in Bouches-du-Rhône, between Marseille and the Étang de Berre. This Provençal town combines an old centre, residential neighbourhoods and accessible shores for walks. Its location near the airport also makes it a convenient stop for travellers arriving in the region or wishing to explore the area around the Étang. Local beaches, including Plage des Marettes, are 7 km away.

In the centre, Château de Marignane, also known as Château des Covet, and the local museums offer a glimpse of the town's history and its residents. Musée Raimu is dedicated to the actor born in Toulon and associated with Provençal cinema; Musée de l'Aviation showcases the history of aviation. For a quieter outing, the town's gardens and parks offer places to stroll. Marseille-Provence Airport is 2.8 km away, and Vitrolles Aéroport Marseille Provence railway station is 4.8 km away. Marseille and its MuCEM, dedicated to the civilisations of the Mediterranean, make for an excursion from Marignane.

The Mediterranean climate makes outdoor activities enjoyable for much of the year. In summer, plan visits and outdoor walks for the morning or late afternoon, when the heat eases. The milder months are well suited to walks around the Étang and exploring nearby villages. You can combine a visit to Marignane's centre with a stop at a museum and some time by the water. Having a car makes it easier to explore several towns or reach the beaches.
